QIN
Dr. Ying Qin received a B.S. in Chemistry from Lanzhou University in P. R. China in 1996. She received a M.S. (2006) in Packaging Engineering from Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan and a Ph.D. (2003) in Chemistry from the National University of Singapore in Singapore. She worked as a packaging Co-Op in Johnson & Johnson – Cordis company at Spring House, Pennsylvania in 2006. Then she did a Post-doctoral study on biomass research at The Center for Green Manufacturing in The University of Alabama from 2007-2009. She joined Alabama Institute for Manufacturing Excellence (AIME) at The University of Alabama in 2009 and serves as a research associate. Her research interests are in the area of Green chemistry and technology include using room temperature ionic liquids as alternative solvents to process chitinous and lignocellulosic biomass and extract/separate valuable polysaccharides; producing composite membranes and fibers and discover their industrial applications; and developing technologies to recycle ionic liquids from different processing applications. She is also interested in the development of environmentally responsive smart drug delivery devises using natural or functionalized biopolymers.
